《BON KOO SOLO EXHIBITION 》

BON KOO(구본정, 1972) 작가는 서울예고와 홍익대학교에서 회화를 전공한 뒤 뉴욕에서 신학을 공부했다. 8회의 개인전과 100회 이상의 그룹전에 참여하며 국제 아트페어에서도 꾸준히 주목받아왔다. 2005년 뉴욕의 Drew대학교에서 첫 개인전 <The 1st Exhibition>을 시작으로, 뉴욕, 서울, 부산 등지에서 개인전 8회와 100회이상의 그룹전에 참여하며 자신만의 예술적 언어를 확립했다. 작가는 2024년 12월 박서보, 이우환, 김학균 등의 작가들이 전시하는 블루칩 작가 전문의 뉴욕 첼시에 위치한 Gallery AP Space에서 전시를 열었다. 그의 작품은 Drew Theological School, Paradigm Art Inc.와 JW Marriott Hotel Seoul 등 여러 기관과 갤러리에 소장되어 있으며, 그 작품을 통해 신앙, 인간성, 사회적 이슈에 대한 깊은 고찰을 이어가고 있다. 또한 여러 국제적 미술 전시에도 참여하며, 글로벌 아티스트로서의 입지를 다지고 있다.

갤러리 서린 스페이스에서 개최하는 이번 전시 《BON KOO solo exhibition, from.NY》에서 작가는 익숙하면서도 낯선 감각, 기억과 망각이 교차하는 순간들을 동물을 통해 풀어냈다. 화면 속 동물들은 마치 인간의 내면을 비추는 거울처럼 정지된 듯한 긴장감을 자아내며, 스퀴지 기법을 활용해 의도적으로 덧칠하고 지워낸 흔적들은 사라진 기억과 새로운 감각이 겹쳐지는 순간을 담아낸다. BON KOO의 작품은 단순한 동물 회화가 아니라, 우리가 살아가는 치열한 현실 속에서 문득 마주하는 감정과 기억의 조각들을 포착하는 깊이 있는 탐구다. 이번 전시를 통해 작가는 우리에게 묻는다—과거의 기억이 낯설게 느껴지고, 처음 마주하는 순간이 익숙하게 다가올 때, 우리는 어떤 감정과 마주하게 되는가?

​BON KOO (Koo Bonjeong. b, 1972) studied theology in New York after studying painting at Seoul Arts High School and Hongik University. He has consistently attracted attention in international art fairs, participating in eight solo exhibitions and more than 100 group exhibitions. Starting with his first solo exhibition, The 1st Exhibition, at Drew University in New York in 2005, he established his own artistic language by participating in eight solo exhibitions and more than 100 group exhibitions in New York, Seoul, and Busan.The artist opened an exhibition at the Gallery AP Space in Chelsea, New York, in December 2024, featuring artists such as Park Seo-bo, Lee Ufan, and Kim Hak-kyun. His works are owned by several organizations and galleries, including Drew Theological School, Paradigm Art Inc., and JW Marriott Hotel Seoul, where he continues his deep consideration of faith, humanity, and social issues. He also participates in several international art exhibitions, strengthening his position as a global artist.This exhibition, "BON KOO solo exhibition," will be held at Gallery Serene Space, from.In "NY", the author describes the intersection of familiar and unfamiliar senses, memories and forgetfulness through animals. Animals in the screen create tension as if they are still as if they were mirrors reflecting the inside of a human being, and traces intentionally painted and erased using squeegee techniques capture the moment when missing memories and new senses overlap. BON KOO's art work is not just an animal painting, but an in-depth exploration that captures the pieces of emotions and memories that we suddenly face in the fierce reality of our lives.
